Previews Exclusive X-Plus 30 cm Anguirus 1968 Review

Previews Exclusive X-Plus 30 cm Anguirus ’68 is the first X-Plus reissue in 2016. The PE X-Plus line has been on hiatus since the end of 2014, and the last two figures produced then were Godzilla 1989 and Gorosaurus 1967. However, Diamond Comics have made another deal with X-Plus to reproduce more figures that will be released throughout 2016 and 2017. Now that things are picking up again, Anguirus feels like a great way to kick start this fantastic run!

Anguirus 1968

Anguirus is as spot on as he will ever be. The figure is simply awesome! This version of Anguirus is based off of his appearance in “Destroy All Monsters.” He is depicted during his moments when he crawled on all fours, a trait that unanimously relates with people.

The detailing is superb. Anguirus’ scaly skin texture is meticulously done with perfection. The same could be said for just about every single spot on this figure, such as the plethora of spikes (seen on the armor, front set of limbs, and tail), rows of individually sculpted teeth, horns on Anguirus’ head and snout, and much more. There are a few noticeable seam lines, which are located at the base of Anguirus' neck, tail, and limbs. However, they don't feel like a complete bother.

The colors on Anguirus are also impressive. All paint applications were evenly distributed with no obvious signs of paint slops. Anguirus’ skin color is grey with some overlapping shades of tan paint. The spikes on Anguirus’ back armor are cream color with grey gradients. However, the fingers, toes, horns, and tail spikes are a creamy shade of tan with grey gradients. Anguirus’ mouth contains individually sculpted teeth that are colored off white and a red painted tongue. His eyes are glossy brown.

Conclusion

Anguirus may have some small bits of potential peeves that may turn away collectors with particular tastes. Particulary, a few visible seam lines. With that said, there are so many great things that this figure has at the same time. The details and static pose of Anguirus truly captures the physical presence of him on film. Also, the color scheme is perfectly selected to maintain the appeal of the figure as well as paying homage to how Anguirus looked behind the screen. Fans of Anguirus, who haven’t had this figure before, will likely be just as impressed as well.

  1. Good ol' Anguirus. He really needs better figures of him, especially articulated ones. The best one I've seen is Revoltech's Anguirus, and Revoltech is infamous for having horrible joints.

This figure looks great. While I am very partial to Anguirus' first look, in '55, I do love his Showa design too, and hate his Final Wars design. Hilariously enough, it took this review, and figure, for me to notice his two long fangs in front. And now it's really bugging me because of it, lol. They look a little out of place, despite the fact that the Showa suit has them.

I honestly don't ever mind seam lines. They've never bothered me, and I don't exactly collect for suit accuracy.

    1. I too hope to see another articulated Anguirus figure sometime in the future. I missed my timing on the Revoltech one and the current market for it is way out of my reach. Did you like the design and monochrome color of the X-Plus’ 30 cm Anguirus ’55 figure?

    2. Oh, definitely. It's one of the highlights to that figure. I just can't see the first two Godzillas or Anguirus in anything other than black and white, or brownish for the actual suits.
