Godzilla 50th Anniversary Box Set's Godzilla 1984 Figure Review

Bandai's Godzilla 50th Anniversary Box Set is one of the most popular figure sets to this date, because the bundle included every Godzilla suit interpretation on six inch figures. Perhaps the figure that received the most praise could have been Godzilla 1984. This collectible item is the most accurate figure Bandai has made based on the Godzilla '84 suit. There was a toy made before in the late 80's that was released alongside the standard 8 inch series, but the problem was that the first version of Godzilla '84 not only stood 6 inches, but the overall look wasn't that good either. So, let's see why Memorial Box version is praised by many!

Bandai Museum Gigan Review

Before Bandai Museum's first location officially closed in Matsudo, Chiba, they sold exclusive figures that could only be purchased from their location. Gigan (Showa) was one of the last two Godzilla-related figures that Bandai Museum released. What's even more interesting is X-Plus was contracted to create this limited edition toy, opposed to having Bandai reuse their previous molds.

Hobby Link Japan Brings Back an Old Favorite!

I'll be honest...the Gundam Series is still relatively new to me. I did see Gundam Wing on Toonami a long time ago and have seen their toys and models all over local anime toy stores, but have never taken the time to fully indulge in it. I just wasn't a giant robot fan from the start because my preference went to giant creatures, including dinosaurs (love of dinosaurs + Godzilla = fan for life!). However, I do appreciate giant robot shows as well for being so different to my usual tastes.

When I lived in a college dorm with my friend, one of the most interesting things he introduced me to was Mobile Fighter G Gundam. What stood out was the stereotypes in the show, which I found hilariously amusing. How should I feel when the Gundam representing my country (Neo America) sports a football helmet and shoulder pads, and is piloted by a famous boxer?

Tangent aside, I accidentally came across a cool Gundam model based from the show that I couldn't resist:  Bandai's 1/144 Devil Gundam aka Dark Gundam! Devil Gundam was IMO the coolest Gundam from that series, and I didn't know that a 1/144 scale model was made before, which is perfect for a newbie like me. What made me want this kit was the fact that Dark Gundam's mobile fighter mode could transform into mobile armor mode, then back again. I don't think I'll continue collecting other Gundams after this, so this model will be perfect.

This particular model was very rare and expensive once, but the prices have gone down probably because Bandai re-issued that model a lot of times. HLJ (Hobby Link Japan) will have these models restocked in February, but is already accepting orders for 800 yen (about $9) a piece plus shipping charges.

You can check out HLJ's listing by clicking the link here:  http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN46438.

I also plan to document my Gundam building progress here in the future. Until then, enjoy your weekend everyone!

New Updates (1/12/13)

With the new year comes new changes....hello everyone! To give you guys a quick update, the site has a new look including a new banner, background, and template. Can you tell that blue is my favorite color? This project has been planned for a while, but I wasn't able to do it quickly because of my busy schedule.

This year there will be more figure reviews, raves, other posts that I am sorting out, and a recap of this year's Kawaii-Kon. I still consider myself a noob in taking good quality pictures and posing my figures, but I'm working on it lol. Thanks for stopping by and look forward to more content!

X-Plus Varan 1958 (25 cm) Figure Review

A lot of buzz swarmed amongst figure collectors when X-Plus officially announced the release of Varan 1958 in the 30 cm line. Anticipations ran high, and in the end their wait was worth it. Varan (30 cm edition) stood on it's own two feet, a pose that is probably favored by most. Continuing the positive sales results, X-Plus released another version of Varan in the 25 cm edition. Except this time, Varan is in his crawling position.
